New moms need better support
Today, there are more moms than ever in the workforce. But many new moms who want to continue providing breast milk to their babies feel they’re not getting the right support and products to meet their needs when they return to work. As a result, they are unable to meet their breast milk feeding goals and may leave their jobs after giving birth.
Employers are under pressure to retain valuable talent while managing or reducing costs. But providing a seamless, supportive experience that helps moms go back to work and feed with breast milk longer can be a challenge.
An unmet personal need that has a societal impact
babies are born each year
of mothers work
outside the home
of babies begin their lives receiving breast milk, but this drops dramatically when moms return to work
of women leave the workforce within 3 months of childbirth
The current workplace experience for expecting parents
is fragmented and inconsistent.
Dozens of vendors
Lactation support driven by health plan case management
No support built into the intranet
Back-to-work focus on leave and child care
Low engagement in health risk assessment and wellness programs
Issues with finding breast pump provider
Need for milk shipping
Access to pumps varies by benefit design and plan
Lack of portable solution for open workspaces
No early education
Inconsistent room design and access
What products are available through New Moms’ Healthy Returns?
There are five key pillars in the program. You can choose the full suite or just what you need to complete your current breastfeeding offering. We’ll work with you to choose what’s best for your organization based on the number of employees you have and how many locations you have. Here are the five pillars:
Top-of-the-line Medela products: hospital-grade Symphony® pumps and lactation essentials to make pumping at work faster and easier.
Easy-to-place Mamava suites to pump in: a plug-and-play space solution that gives moms the comfortable space they deserve.
24/7 Virtual Support from pregnancy through baby’s first year: in-the-moment access to experts, including pediatric nurses and lactation consultants, to give mom peace-of-mind as she navigates pregnancy and breastfeeding transitions.
Trusted Educational Resources: a celebratory gift box, customizable employee communications, and educational resources including Medela’s Breastfeeding University, to help parents feel supported and empowered in their journey.
Breast milk shipping for traveling employees: get moms where they need to be without having to worry about how they can feed their baby while on the road.
How will my company benefit from the program?
The benefits of supporting lactation in the workplace are significant, and include potential reduction in medical costs due the health benefits of breast milk. Breast-fed babies have 50-70% fewer occurrences of common childhood illnesses such as ear infections, respiratory infections, and gastroenteritis. And because these children are often healthier, their parents miss work less often – in fact, moms of breast-fed babies have 50% fewer one-day absences compared to formula-fed babies. Additionally, the retention rate of employees at companies who provide lactation support programs is much higher than without; research found a 94% retention rate at companies offering lactation programs, compared to the national average of 59%.
Employers today are often under pressure to attract and retain valuable female talent, and to provide a supportive family-friendly culture that helps new moms return to work. Our customizable, single-source solution is specifically designed to make it easy for you to give your employees the support they need to successfully balance their career with breastfeeding and a growing family.

What is the cost of the program?
Our program costs vary depending upon the products and services implemented, the amount of equipment purchased, and the number of employees who become pregnant and enroll. We charge standard rates for products purchased for use in the workplace (e.g., pumps and supplies), and a per-case rate for services, so clients only pay for what they use.
Additionally, our pricing model is different from most wellbeing and family support vendors. We price using a case-rate or usage-based model, so the employer only pays for the products and services that are used. This pricing model allows for greater cost control and optimization of the organization’s spending.
